Retail Finance Manager

Lead a high-performing finance team and own the P&L across an international ASX-listed retail group.
We're looking for a commercially driven Retail Finance Manager to lead our retail accounting function across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. This is a senior role within the team that blends financial reporting, P&L ownership, and strategic commercial insight — with real influence on decision-making across an ASX-listed retail business.
What you'll do:

Operational Oversight: Oversee the month-end process and reporting, variance analysis, balance sheet integrity, and provide strategic guidance on AP, AR, and tax compliance.

Lead & Develop: Manage, mentor, and build a high-performing team of approximately six direct and indirect reports across the retail accounting function.

Own the P&L: Take full ownership of the retail operations P&L, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across three operating markets.

Commercial Partnership: Partner with the executive team and senior stakeholders to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable business insights.

Statutory & ASX Reporting: Play a key role in half-year and full-year external audit cycles, and compliance with IFRS standards.

Drive Improvement: Lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives and project governance within the Finance Department.

Operational Oversight: Oversee month-end reporting, variance analysis, balance sheet integrity, and provide strategic guidance on AP, AR, and tax compliance.
What you'll bring:

Qualifications: Completed CPA Australia or CA ANZ qualification, backed by a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.

Experience: Demonstrated progressive operational and financial accounting experience, with at experience leading a team of 5 or more.

Listed & Retail Exposure: Experience in a listed company (ASX or equivalent) environment is highly regarded, along with a strong understanding of multi-site, multi-country retail operations.

Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of IFRS, general ledger processes, and multi-entity/multi-currency accounting environments.

AI & Digital Mindset: A genuine interest in and working knowledge of AI and automation tools as applied to finance processes, with the ability to identify practical opportunities and help build this capability across the team as part of Michael Hill's ongoing digital transformation journey.

Systems Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (D365/AX advantageous), plus familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI.

Leadership & Influence: Proven people management capability and the stakeholder presence to present to and influence senior audiences in a fast-paced environment.

Communication: A confident communicator who can simplify complex financial data for non-finance audiences.
