Michael Hill is looking for a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our dedicated Tax Team in our Global Support Centre in Brisbane.

This role will work collaboratively with our wider support centre departments, retail stores and retail management teams with a primary focus on assisting with tax compliance, research, documentation, advice & process improvement requirements across the Michael Hill International Group globally to ensure all tax deadlines are met, tax positions are adhered to and compliant across the business.

In this varied role, the successful applicant will have significant interaction with other teams in the finance department as well as external consultants and Revenue offices across each of the three countries in which Michael Hill operates.

More about the role:

• Assist with the preparation and timely lodgement of group income tax returns
• Assist with the preparation and timely lodgement of GST (or equivalent), FBT (or equivalent) and Non-Resident withholding tax returns in all jurisdictions in which Michael Hill operates.
• Involvement in process improvements across all areas of direct and indirect tax
• Assist with audit and risk review related enquiries from state and federal revenue authorities globally. Prepare relevant supporting information including liaising with external advisors where required
• Conduct internal compliance reviews/checks
• Prepare and maintain tax related balance sheet reconciliations
• Support and coordinate with financial accountants on various initiatives and projects
• Maintain professional relationships with all external providers

About you:

• Degree in Finance, Business or other relevant discipline
• Ability to manage and communicate constantly changing & competing priorities
• Ability to multi-task and work with large amounts of information & data
• Work accurately and efficiently in Excel with large volumes of data
• Developed computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and Microsoft AX Dynamics
• Highly developed written and oral skills
• Ability to interpret and suggest application of taxation law to current business transactions
• Demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail and time management with respect to deadlines
